SUMMER SWIM SCHOOL

Who:  ages 3 and up, all ability levels

 

What:         Level I  -  Water Adjustment  Learns to float, blow bubbles, put face in water, jump in and kick straight legged

Level II  - Foundations of Swimming.  Learns to float w/o help, rhythmic breathing, kicking 20 ft with board, freestyle arm strokes.

Level III  - Beginning Swimming.  Learns to do freestyle stroke, side breathing, kicking on back, backstroke, diving

Level IV  -  Advanced Swimming.  Learn freestyle with alternate breathing, shallow dives, breastroke kick, breastroke, dolphin kick

 

Where:  AJCC

 

When:  Monday through Thursday (4 days/week for 2 weeks)

Fridays will be makeup days for bad weather.

11:35-12:05, 12:10-12:40, 12:45-1:15

Eight 30– minute classes  + two makeup classes

Evening private classes available by appointment

  American Red Cross Babysitters Class

Limited enrollment

Designed for 11- to 15-year olds, this course can help you:

Interview for a babysitting job

Choose safe and age-appropriate toys and games

Perform first aid

Learn diapering and feeding techniques

Handle bedtime issues

Learn tips for having a safe babysitting experience

(10 am to 4 pm, bring sack lunch)

 

Teen Comedy Central 

Teens 11-18, 10 Mondays, 5:30-6:30 pm, Begins 3/10/08, $125

Pratfalls, gags double-takes, goofy improv games, witty one-liners, sketch comedy, clowning, physical theater, mime, ”silent Movie Schemes and more.  Learn the tricks of the trade in this fantastically funny class. Taught by the incomparable local actor Tere Luke.

 

Teens & Adults Do Clay                             10 Tuesdays, 6:00-7;00 pm,$145,                  begins 3/11/08                                      Ever wanted to put your hands in clay and make something wonderful?  Now is the time!  Art Teacher Elizabeth Barnes is a talented and patient teacher.  You will be sure to make something that you will treasure! 

Food Around the World, 10 Wednesdays
6:00– 7:30 pm, $145, starts 3/12/08, includes all food costs.  Learn new cooking techniques & eat fun food. Led by master chef Shirley Christie.  Adults & teens.

 Conversational Hebrew for Teens and Adults
10 Tuesdays, 7 pm, Begins 3/11/08, $125
Conversational beginning Hebrew taught by an engaging, fun, experienced teacher, Charlie Ronen.  Learn to speak so you can talk to other Israelis or travel to Israel. Be ready for your next trip to the Holy Land. Continuing students interested in Hebrew, please call so we can arrange a class.

 
Music Lessons
Have you or your child always wanted to play an instrument?  This is the perfect opportunity.   Pick the best day for your family.  Our teachers have many years experience and can teach all levels. Keyboard,  violin,  viola  and guitar.  Children and adults accepted. In just one session you can be playing a tune!

Archery, “Hit the Target”
 Kids 7+, 10 Wednesdays, 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm, $125, Begins 3/12/08,
The sport of Archery is safe, fun and easy to learn. Girls and boys can participate and excel equally.  This fall we will offer weekly archery lessons, equipment provided.  Safety is the primary focus of our archery program. Teacher: Reina Lukas
 
Study Hall with Snack
10 Thursdays, 4-5 pm, Begins 3/13/08, $145
Is your child struggling in school?  Have him/her come and get support from a masters level teacher. Have him/her bring the week’s homework. Your child will work on subjects that present the most difficulty.  Call for information about private tutoring.  Teacher: Susan Steinberg
 
Cooking for Fun
Ages 6-10, 10 Wednesdays, 4:30-5:30 pm, Begins 3/12/08,  $125,
Do your kids follow you around in the kitchen?  Do they pester you to teach them how to follow recipes?  Well this is the answer to that dilemma!  Shirley Christie, caterer and cooking teacher, will teach your kids for you.  Learn basic kitchen skills and make wonderful foods to take home to their families.   Edible fun!

Beginning Spanish
Ages 6+, 10 Tuesdays, 4:00 pm, $125, Begins 3/11/08, Teacher: Celia O’Brien Everyone loves this class!! 
Children learn Spanish vocabulary related to people, places and things they see every day. Activities include familiar songs and games played in Spanish. Certified instructor will send home information so parents can reinforce and share learning experiences. 
 
Kids Tennis
Ages 6-12, 10 Wednesdays, 4-5 pm, $125,  Begins 3/12/08
Does your child want to learn or to better tennis skills? Once a week group tennis lessons will be offered for children 6-10 years old. Coach Chike Amobi, who teaches at our summer camp, is a favorite among the students.  All skill levels.
 
Soccer Basics
Kids 4-6, 10 Wednesdays, 5-6 pm, $125, Begins 3/12/08
Have fun learning to kick and control a soccer ball. Coach Chike Amobi will teach your child the basic soccer moves and concepts.  Kicking a soccer ball and running comes naturally to little ones.
 
Kids Do Clay
Kids 6-11, 10 Tuesdays,  4-5 pm, Begins 3/11/08,  $125
Come and get your hands dirty with clay today! Local sculptor and art teacher, Elizabeth Barnes, will enthrall your child with the joys of clay.  Many different clay and decorating techniques. Small classes ensure each child gets individual attention.
 
Kids Drawing, Kids 7-12, 10 Thursdays, 4-5 pm
Begins 3/13/08, $125
This class teaches easy and fun techniques for drawing and sketching. The properties of pastels, graphite, crayon, and charcoal will be explained so the student can better express his or her artistic vision. Teacher:  Wendy Murphy
 
Kids Painting
Kids 7-12, 10 Wednesdays, 5-6 pm, Begins 3/12/08, $125
Young artists are inspired by nature, still lifes, and their own imagination as they explore the world around them. Students will learn the basic elements of art through a variety of approaches. Painting projects are different each term. Teacher: Wendy Murphy
 
Mommy & Me                                                                                10 Tuesdays, Begins 3/11/08, 1:00 pm, $125                         Playtime for moms and toddlers! Your child and you will look forward to this class and not want to leave.  Wonderful support group run by a young ballerina, Jessica Cohen.  Kids 2-4, Moms any age!

Preschool Art

Introduce your child to all kinds of art.  Put their hands into clay. Draw what they see around them.  Learn about collage with all kinds of materials.  A perfect class for the budding  artist.
 
KIds Collage

Scence Adventures

 Dangerous Creatures Description: They bite! They sting! Could you survive an encounter with one of these "deadly" beasts? Swim with the sharks. Design a snake. Build a working electric ray and a heat seeking  croc-thermometer as we discover if these creatures are really dangerous… or just misunderstood?
